I want you to truly sit back and think if you are married or even if your not. Is marriage supposed to be this perfect fairy tale that we see in movies?? I mean growing up as a little girl I always dreamed that someday my prince would come, and like that of Snow White I would be whisked away off to a beautiful life and live in a beautiful castle. Now I know I am not the only girl who fantasized about that when they were younger. I know for myself, I think I had a fake wedding and got married in kindergarten.  I cannot think of the boy’s name, but I can remember saying that we were rich and that we had a ton of kids…

Thinking about this now just makes me laugh and wonder why I don’t have that same imagination that I had as a child? That childlike faith faded when I got older and some days I just wish I could go back in time and get it back again. Being an adult can be so hard at times, and then theirs the thought of “man I have to keep growing up and I am only going to get older from here on out”.  But I think I am getting a little sidetracked here. My whole basis for this post was to talk about why so many people in today’s economy look at marriage as being a “perfect” little fairy tale with a happy ending. I hate to break it to those dreamers but that is all you are doing, dreaming of something that will never come. You are setting your expectations too high and will honestly never be happy in marriage by this.

What did God create marriage for?

Now don’t get me wrong, marriage can be so beautiful, incredible actually because God created marriage to be a circle with him in the center. We have two rings, one for the man and one for the woman, but they are completely round. I see them as a never-ending circle filled with trust, sanctity, love, hardship, struggle and so much more. I think as a society nowadays, the meaning of marriage is so different than what it was when our grandparents or even great grandparents were younger. Why is that you ask?? Well, because in today’s world social media and trying to look the best to everyone around has become our only means of survival. We all want that huge engagement ring, the extravagant wedding, all those happy pictures showing that you are just “perfect” that you have that “perfect life” and everyone wishes they could be you.

Putting on a show…

The fake show we give to everyone that comes with the new house, the new car, the new baby… do see where I am going with this?? Everyone wants everything to be new. So what happens when things aren’t new anymore? You got it! That’s when we upgrade and throw the old away and get something new. Although no one really sees other peoples lives because everything is done with technology and on social media these days. We wonder why the divorce rate is so high, and there are so many separated families and so many families that are torn apart? Now I am not blaming everything on technology and social media. There is a lot that comes down to morals and what we are being taught as well.

We watch T.V and movies and see all these people cheating, or we see how miraculous these celebrities lives are, but we never see outside of the exterior that they portray for us. The media makes it seem like its okay to get divorced, that it won’t hurt because you will just find someone new… but is that always the case? From my standpoint, I just do not believe in divorce because if you love your marriage and you love your spouse you do whatever you can to fight through it. NO one ever said marriage is going to be easy. In fact, many people even told me that marriage is very hard, and I needed to make sure that I was prepared to make that lifelong commitment.

Trials and tribulations

I think what I am trying to get at here is that there will be days when you absolutely can’t stand your spouse and there will be days when you absolutely cannot stand to be without them. You will go through trials and tribulations but you are the only one that can make sure you stand strong after those storms. Because believe me there is going to be so many storms, you will be struck down time and time again, but you have to be the one to get back up and fight for another day. Those times through the storms can only get better when you work through it, because what comes after a storm and after the rain? A rainbow! So the next time you get jealous of someone’s picture online or the life that person has always remember there is always something more than what meets the eye. The next time you have a huge fight with your spouse and your ready to completely just give up and call it quits, think about all that you’re risking and all that you would be losing and remember marriage isn’t easy but it is so worth it!

I never knew when I was younger that this is where I would be in life at this very moment.  When I found out I was sick, my life took a turn for the worse for quite a while. It always felt if it wasn't one thing it was another, first, it was head injuries (about 12 concussions or more to be exact), then there were heart problems. I never thought in a million years it would have got as bad as it did, but through it all, I knew that God had it. Did I have my doubts? Of course, I did! Who in their right mind wouldn't? I just knew in my heart and still to this day know, this is exactly where the Lord wants me. With him all things are possible, and I know without him I would not be who I am today. Living the life of these illnesses has not kept me from pursuing and reaching my full potential. I was able to graduate with my Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management, and health services administration. I worked incredibly hard at school, my strength and endurance pushed me to be the best I could be. And now here I am starting this beautiful blog of mine and pursuing another goal in life and helping others reach theirs in every way that I can possibly can! So, please let me know what I can do to help you today? Send me a message
