Give it all back to God

The seven forms of worship

Tonight I went to a Christian concert that included Chris Tomlin and quite a few other worship bands. I have been to so many before. I absolutely love going to them to be in the presence of the lord and to feel the Holy Spirit. There are so many Christian artists that are there to worship with you, to bring you to Christ. They are not like that of other artists that see themselves as idols, who like slapping your hands and have you drooling over them, screaming their name and worshipping their every move. Christian artists get their lyrics from the Lord, they sing to God, they give everything they have to the Lord.

I was singing and had my eyes closed until I looked up for a second and noticed these two little girls dancing and singing and lifting their hands in the middle of the aisle. The concert had just blown confetti from a canyon everywhere and they were slowing the confetti from the ground into the air. It was truly a moment that I could just feel the Holy Spirit through me, it made me want to cry tears of joy for the Faith these two young little girls had. Truly just made me think, to have a child like faith. It is so incredible, they don’t care who is watching they don’t care who is around or if they are going to be judged. They don’t feel awkward like us adults do.

I think you know exactly what I mean when I say about feeling weird, feeling like others are judging you. You don’t want to put your hands up because you feel like you will look silly. You are nervous about telling other people that you went to a Christian concert because your afraid what they might say or what they might think of. But why do we as humans care so much?? God made us all so different, all so unique, he made us worship. He made us sing praises to him (no matter how bad it sounds) belt it out to the lord he loves being praised and he loves our thankfulness of praise.

Let us all be like those little girls that were dancing in the aisle, not have a care in the world because they were enjoying the music and loving every second they had with the lord! I know for myself I really struggle with feeling judged, feeling weak, feeling like I am not enough.

There was a speaker there tonight that spoke about the different types of praises from the Bible and what they all mean. This was so eye-opening and I wanted to share all seven of them with you;

1) Yahdah: pronounced yaw-daw. This word means to go to worship with an extended hand. To give absolute surrender like that of a child. Actually, this is exactly like I said above.

2) Tehillah: the speaker made a joke about this one too, told us all to be careful when saying this word. Probably one that won’t be forgotten because it relates closely to that of the word tequila. Now I will tell you that these words have none of the same meaning at all. Tehillah: pronounced teh-hil-law. This one means to sing a new song to the lord. The Lord loves being able to hear new songs coming out of our mouth in adoration to him. This is a singing that is unprepared, a song that is completely new to you and unrehearsed. I see this one more as singing prophetic, just listening to the lord and allowing him to put new words into your mouth to create a beautiful new song for him.

3) Barak: pronounced like baw-rak. When we kneel and bow before the lord. This is a complete and physical act of adoration.

4) Hallal: (haw-lal), when we give the lord all the glory. We give him all the praise and show everyone that he is light. To be boastful and to shine. The speaker said that this word is used in the Bible quite a bit. This word can mean to celebrate, to make a huge show.

5) Zamar: this word was talked about as more of a worship one to sing and to praise the Lord with all kinds of musical instruments. If you want a reference to read for this, a good one is 1 Chronicles 16:9 “Sing to him, sing praises (zamar) to him; speak of all his wonders.”

6) Shabach: This one is a fun one; meaning to SHOUT!! To command the triumph of the Lord. Just think to yourself how incredible our Lord is. He created us from basically nothing, he sacrificed his own son, he sacrifices things for us on the daily as we just go about living our lives. This one is one I see in the Bible where the people were probably shouting as loud as they could, sounding off the trumpets, making as much noise as they could for how incredible our God is! The one part of the bible that I want to reference is actually a song I learned (and still remember to this day) from nursery school and vacation bible school. Psalm 47:1 “O clap your hands, all peoples, shout (shabach) to God with the voice of joy.” Now here comes the song, ” O clap your hands all you people, shout unto God with the voice of triumph, clap your hands all you people, shout unto God with the voice of praise. Hosanna, hosanna, shout unto God with the voice of triumph, Hosanna, Hosanna, shout unto God with the voice of praise” That was one of my favorites that I would sing in bible school (any of you sing along to that with me?) I know it is a hard one to forget, and one that gets stuck in your head forever.. for that I do apologize. I know I will now be singing it the rest of the day.

7) Finally, the last word that is used in the bible for praise is Towdah: This is when we thank God in admiration for things that we have not yet received… I know.. think about this one for a couple seconds, I know I did when the speaker spoke about it. Do we ever as Christ followers thank God before we receive anything from him? I think a lot of us run to God when we want something when we are scared when something happens unexpectedly. But what about those times when we just thank God for the roof over our head, for the food we have to eat, for the incredible blessings of people that he has brought into our lives? What about those time? When we thank him before we even receive it? The bible has one verse that really comes to my mind when we want to really give thanks to the lord. Jeremiah 33:11 states “the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of the bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the Lord saying, “Give thanks to the Lord Almighty for the Lord is good; and his love endures forever.”

If you ever have a chance to buy a ticket to go see any kind of Christian concert I would highly recommend it. You know the money you are sending is going back to the lord. You are giving your praises to the lord and his love truly endures forever.

I also want to note, that I do not know this language and the way everything is exactly spelled, I just took the words that the speaker told us about and wrote down the seven of them to share with all of you.
